Biographical Sketch
Kenneth R. Chelst received the B.A. degree from Yeshiva College, the M.S. in operations research from New York University and the Ph.D. degree in operations research from M.I.T. He is chair of the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering of Wayne State University since August 2003. His research interests include structured decision making in engineering management and operations research models applied to emergency services. Dr. Chelst is also directing an ongoing project to develop operations research modules for use in the high school math classroom which are maintained on the website www.hsor.org.. This work will appear in March 2004 in book form under the title Does This Line Ever Move: Real-World Applications of Operations Research. Dr. Chelst played a lead role in the development of the Engineering Management Masters Program (EMMP), which has achieved national recognition. He led a Ford team in the INFORMS sponsored Edelman Prize competition of 2000. He also consults with Urban Science Applications Inc., a world-wide leader in the planning of new car dealership networks.
